Project objectives
The project aims to investigate the effects of elevated temperature and hypoxia on air-breathing fish Chitala ornata to specifically understand the effects of temperature increases on this species, and exam the interaction effects of different elevated temperatures and hypoxic levels on respiration, ventilation and gill remodelling.
These researches will contribute knowledge to understand the vulnerability, responses as well as the capacity for adaptation of air-breathing fish to elevated temperature and hypoxia.

Project description/activities
There are four main parts in the project as follows (1)effect of elevated temperature and hypoxia on clown knifefish respiration and growth rate; (2) effect of elevated temperature and hypoxia on gill remodelling of clown knifefish; (3) effect of hypercarbia and hypercapnia on ventilatory responses of clown knifefish (intact fish); and (4) effect of hypercarbia and hypercapnia on ventilatory responses of clown knifefish (denervated fish).
